Milton and Oakville accounting for most new COVID-19 cases in Halton

Milton and Oakville are again pushing the number of COVID-19 cases higher in Halton Region.
Of the 69 new cases recorded in the Region today (Nov. 16), 36 are from Milton and 24 from Oakville. Again, the concentration of these cases is centred in the neighbourhoods that are adjacent to the communities of Erin Mills and Meadowvale in Mississauga.
As well, in Milton and Oakville, the majority of those infected with the coronavirus are under the age of 60 with Halton Public Health indicating transmission is occurring mostly due to personal contact.
Burlington with four cases and Halton Hills with five have consistently been able to avoid double-digit increases for the past several days.
Overall, Halton is dealing with 549 active cases and is just slightly short of hitting the 3,000 mark of cases since the outbreak first began.
In Ontario today there are 1,487 new cases. Toronto has 503 cases and Peel Region 392. York Region reports 170 new cases and Hamilton has 24.

Today also marks the beginning of Halton moving into the “Red” Control category of the Province’s framework for controlling the virus. The new designation puts stricter limits across multiple sectors to control tansmission. It is the most severe category before a complete lockdown is issued.
