A Michelin-recommended Toronto restaurant has plans to expand to Mississauga.
PAI, a Thai restaurant frequented by celebrities, has submitted a liquor sales licence for a location in Square One Shopping Centre.
The Mississauga location would be the first outside Toronto.
Known as one of Toronto’s best Thai restaurants, the spot draws lineups even in the middle of the day on weekdays.
The kitchen is helmed by well-known Chef Nuit Regular and the menu features include an iconic papaya salad, beef salad, khao soi, pad see ew, pad gra prow and curries. The pad Thai is one of their must-try dishes.
PAI is named after the Thai village where Nuit Regular and her husband opened their first restaurant, according to the Michelin recommendation.
“A former nurse, Nuit now soothes by cooking her family recipes and street food favorites for hungry patrons,” the recommendation says.
The dishes are sized for sharing with varying spice levels, and many focus on northern Thai cuisine.
PAI did not immediately respond to a request for more information on when and where in the mall they would open, but the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario liquor sales licence application for PAI Square One lists the address 100 City Centre Dr., Unit FM07.
This is the same unit as the now-closed Farzi Cafe. The cafe closed last summer amid accusations that it had billed customers for items they believed were complimentary.
PAI Square One is applying for liquor sales in indoor and outdoor areas, according to the application.
The PAI Toronto locations are at 18 Duncan St. and 2335 Yonge St.
