Men from Mississauga, Whitby arrested in Oshawa traffic stop of stolen Mercedes, handgun seized

Two men are in police custody after a stolen Mercedes was stopped in Oshawa’s north-end Tuesday evening and a handgun was found in the car.

Durham Police spotted the Mercedes in the Thickson Rd and Taunton Rd area, a hybrid environment with a commercial plaza to the north and suburban homes to the south, around 7:45 p.m. April 12.

Officers pursued the car to the area of Conlin Rd and Simcoe St, some five kilometers away north of Durham College, where they were able to stop the Mercedes.

Once stopped police searched the car and found the gun.

Jakeem Martin, 27 of Mississauga and Destiny Flagler-Reid, 22 of Whitby, face 16 charges between them including; possession of a prohibited/restricted firearm with ammo, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a car, unauthorized possession of a firearm and careless storage. Neither has been charged in connection to the stolen car.

Both will remain in custody until a bail hearing.
