Man steals bus, but continues dropping off passengers in Hamilton Ontario

A man allegedly stole a city bus in Hamilton Tuesday night, but continued to pick up and drop off passengers, police say.

Hamilton police said that at around 9 p.m., a Hamilton Street Railway bus driver pulled into the McNab Bus Terminal and got out for a short break.

“During this time, an adult male entered the unattended bus and drove away with passengers still on board,” police said.

“The suspect proceeded to travel up the Hamilton Mountain, making multiple stops along the way, allowing passengers to board and exit freely.”

Police said the man even denied boarding to someone who had an expired bus pass.

“Keeping mindful of the potential risk to public safety, Hamilton police officers strategically followed the bus and safely brought it to a stop on West 5th Street, where the suspect was taken into custody without incident,” police said.

No one was injured in the incident.

Police said a 36-year-old man of no fixed address has been charged with multiple offences including theft over $5,000 and driving while prohibited.
