A 50-year-old man is in hospital with serious injuries after driving off the road in the York-Durham Line and 16th Avenue area of Pickering yesterday afternoon.

The man was driving northbound on York-Durham Line in a red Toyota Tacoma pick-up truck when his vehicle left the road. The truck landed in a nearby creek bed.

The single-vehicle accident happened about four p.m.

Other drivers helped the driver and his passenger until first-responders arrived. EMS took the driver to a Toronto trauma centre with life-threatening injuries. The driver’s condition was later downgraded to serious.

He remains in stable condition.

Durham Police’s Collision Unit shut down the area for several hours to investigate.

Anyone with information can call Detective Constable Bill Scott  905-579-1520 ext. 5217.
