A man police have yet to identify was killed in a car crash in the early morning hours on Sunday.

Shortly after 4 a.m. on October 24, officers arrived at the scene of a car fire in the Howden Road and Harmony Road of Oshawa. Police found blue Honda Civic that had rammed into a tree on the side of the road totally ablaze.

The driver, the only person in the car, was still inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say the vehicle was most likely traveling east down Howden when the driver lost control of the car and drove into the ditch, striking the tree at high speed. The intersection was closed for several hours as police investigated the crash.

Anyone with information can call Detective Constable Brett Rayne at 905-579-1520 (toll-free 1-888-579-1520) ext. 5256.
