Man dies after arrest in Brampton Peel police Toronto Police

Ontario’s police watchdog is looking into what led to the death of a young man who was arrested in Brampton and taken to a police station in Toronto.

The arrest happened on April 25 when the province’s Special Investigations Unit says a 23-year-old man was taken into custody by Peel Regional Police officers.

Investigators say the man was arrested at the Circle K convenience store at 7970 Mavis Road after Peel police received “a call for service.”

The SIU has not said what type of incident led to the call but that the 23-year-old was a “person of interest” wanted by the Toronto Police Service, and was transported to a TPS police station.

Investigators say the man was later rushed to hospital at an undisclosed date where he died on Wednesday.

No details have been released about what led to the victim’s hospital stay or what charges the man was facing.

The SIU has assigned an investigator and forensic investigator to the case and says a post-mortem examination has already been completed.

The investigation is ongoing and the SIU is urging anyone who may have information about this investigation, including video footage or photos, to contact the investigators by calling 1-800-787-8529 or online www.siu.on.ca.
