Man charged in string of car break-ins at golf courses from Oshawa to Pickering

A man is up on numerous charges after a string of car break-ins at golf courses across Durham Region.
Since early spring an man has been breaking into cars parked at golf courses. Over that time more than 20 cars were broken into at a variety of courses.
This then-ongoing string of break-ins prompted a warning from Durham Regional Police back in July. ”
“Imagine. A beautiful sunny day. You’re out o the links, trying to get a hole in one,” Media Officer George Tudos in a video warning, “when someone breaks into to your vehicle, stealing all your valuables.”
Tudos added that police have “seen an increase” in these break-ins not only in Durham but across the GTA. In these incidents thieves smashed the car windows and stole any valuables they can find including wallets, electronics, and even bank account information.
Working with other police services throughout the GTA, DRPS arrested a man from Cobourg in connection to some of the thefts.
Rodrick Newman, 30, more than 20 charges related to the break-in including;
- Six counts of theft under $5,000
- Five counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000
- Six counts of mischief
- Two counts of unauthorized credit card use
- Three counts of personation for personal gain, and
- Three counts of fraud under $5,000
Newman was later released from custody with conditions.
