Golfers across Durham Region should be more careful at tee time according to Durham Regional Police amid a rise in vehicle break-ins at courses.

DRPS released a video warning today, “Imagine. A beautiful sunny day. You’re out o the links, trying to get a hole in one,” Media Officer George Tudos, “when someone breaks into to your vehicle, stealing all your valuables.”

Tudos continued that DRPS has “seen an increase” in this type of break in over the summer both in Durham Region and across the GTA.

Thieves smash the car windows and steal any valuables they can find including wallets, electronics, and even bank account information.

Police advise golfers to keep all valuables in their golf bag instead of in their car to prevent losses. Previously Durham police have also advised against leaving any sensitive banking documents in the car as well.

“Thieves will not be giving you a mulligan,” Tudos concluded, “Be safe.”
