A man has been charged in connection with a Brampton armed assault that happened a couple weeks ago.

On August 28 a large fight with numerous participants broke out in Brampton near Steeles Ave and Mclaughlin Rd, an area home to Sheridan College campus and a commercial plaza.

The brawl involved numerous weapons and several people suffered non-life threatening injuries. In a viral video of the event, one man can be seen wielding what appears to be a sword and bringing it down over his head on other men in the crowd.

The video quickly cuts out while the men continue the battle. Several people can be seen in the video taking blows and falling to the ground.

Late on September 13, Peel Regional Police announced they had made an arrest for an assault with a weapon in the same area of Brampton at the same time as the brawl.

Harjot Singh, 25, from Woodstock is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon. He is set to appear in a Brampton courtroom on November 2.

“Violence in our community will not be tolerated. Members of the Peel Regional Police continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible before the courts,” said Deputy Chief Marc Andrews.

Anyone with information about the fight can call Peel Police at  905-453-3311, ext 2233 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at  1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
