A driver faces numerous charges after allegedly leading police on a chase down Hwy. 401 in Bowmanville.

Shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Mar. 3, Durham Regional Police officers on patrol spotted a Dodge Ram headed east on Hwy. 401 near the Holt Rd. exit.

The officers tried to pull the truck over, but allege the driver sped off instead sparking a brief chase down the highway. The truck then tried to pull a u-turn in the middle of Hwy. 401, but crashed into the dividing centre meridian.

Next, he tried to flee the police on foot, police say, but officers caught up to him shortly thereafter. They arrested him without further incident.

Alimohamed Husein, 39 of Montreal, is charged with fleeing police, possession of stolen property, dangerous driving and theft of a car. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

Anyone with information pertinent to the investigation can call police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1615 of Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
