Police have laid charges against two people after reportedly seizing a loaded firearm in St. Catharines.

On Saturday afternoon, Feb. 19, officers were on patrol in the area of Manchester Avenue and Hampstead Place and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a multi-coloured Infinity sedan.

However, police say the vehicle didn’t stop.

“The Infiniti sedan eventually pulled into a parking space in the area of Manchester Avenue and Whitmore Street, when a female passenger exited the vehicle and fled the scene,” said police.

Police say they approached the vehicle and located a male in the driver seat, as well as Canadian currency wrapped in a rubber band and a bullet proof vest in plain view.

Further search led officers to locate and seize a loaded 40 calibre Ruger handgun.

The driver and the female passenger, who returned to the scene, were arrested.

25 year old Simcoe man Calvin Matthew J. Kostuk and 27 year old St. Catharines woman Victoria Ann Harvey have been charged with:

  • Possession of Restricted Firearm
  • Possession of Restricted Firearm Knowing Possession Unauthorized
  • Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition (Loaded)
  • Careless Storage of Firearm Section
  • Unauthorized possession in motor vehicle

Both were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
