The Oshawa Generals are peaking at the right time, with a 7-2 thumping of the Sarnia Sting marking their tenth straight victory as the club prepares for the OHL playoffs next week.

The General’s hot streak of late has vaulted the team from a playoff bubble position early in the new year to top spot in the Eastern Conference, with balanced scoring of late proof that the players are finally buying in what coach Derek Laxdal has been selling.

The team got goals from seven different players Sunday, with sophomore sensation Beckett Sennecke scoring and enjoying a three point night. Rasmus Kumpulainan, Matthew Buckley, Connor Punnett, Connor Lockhart, Calum Ritchie and Owen Griffin – with his first career goal – took care of the rest of the scoring.

Jacob Oster, who now sports a nifty 32-16 record with a 2.89 GAA and a .904 save percentage and three shutouts, got the win with 28 saves. Oster is vying with London’s Michael Simpson for top goal honours in the OHL this year.

The team is on the road in Kitchener Friday before completing the regular season with a home game Sunday against Sudbury.

The playoffs begin April 28, likely against Barrie.
