Live 2022 municipal election results for mayor, council and school board trustees in St. Catharines, Niagara Falls, Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake

Voters have made their decisions. Here are the election results for the larger municipalities in Niagara Region: St. Catharines, Niagara Falls and Niagara-on-the-Lake and the candidates who are running in the election.

Niagara Falls
The City of Niagara Falls elects one mayor, three regional councillors and eight councillors at large.
Mayor
Incumbent mayor Jim Diodati has sailed to another victory with 66.72 per cent of the vote. As of 9:35 pm, Diodati–who was first elected to the city’s top job in 2010–had received over 12,000 votes. Diodati is trailed by Sandra Marie MacKinnon (9.28 per cent), Connie Topolinsky (9.12 per cent), Muhammad Shafique (4.42 per cent), Joe White (3.96 per cent), Roland Weeks (3.39 per cent) and Grant Hall (3.12 per cent).

Regional councillors
The three regional council members elected to serve the City for the next four years are Kim Craitor (20.51 per cent of the vote), Joyce Morocco (17.79 per cent) and incumbent Bob Gale (14.35 per cent).

Eight city councillors have been elected in Niagara Falls, including Mike Strange (9.24 per cent), Lori Lococo (9.13 per cent), Ruth-Ann Nieuwesteeg (8.16 per cent), Tony Baldinelli (6.92 per cent), Victor Pietrangelo (6.83 per cent), Wayne Campbell (6.24 per cent), Mona Patel (6.07 per cent) and Wayne Thomson (5.94 per cent).
School board trustees
Jim Marino (45.10 per cent) and Joseph Bruzzese (32.56 per cent) have been elected to serve as trustees for the Niagara Catholic District School board. Helga Campbell and Shannon Mitchell are acclaimed for the District School Board of Niagara and Melinda Chartrand is acclaimed for the French Language Catholic School Board.
Niagara-on-the-Lake
Niagara-on-the-Lake elects one Lord Mayor, one regional councillor and eight councillors.
Lord Mayor
Niagara-on-the-Lake, known as one of the prettiest (if not the prettiest) little towns in Ontario, has a new lord mayor. As of 10:05 pm, regional councillor Gary Zalepa is beating out incumbent Lord Mayor Betty Disero with 49.14 per cent of the vote. Vaughn Goettler is trailing with 16.73 per cent of the vote.

Andrea Kaiser has been elected regional councillor with 44.03 per cent of the vote.

Residents of NOTL have chosen Erwin Wiens (12.28 per cent), Gary Burroughs (10.54 per cent), Wendy Cheropita (9.31 per cent), Tim Balasiuk (9.23 per cent), Sandra O’Connor (8.36 per cent), Nick Ruller (8.18 per cent), Adriana Cater (7.78 per cent) and Maria Mavridis to represent them on town council.
School board trustees
Residents have chosen four District School Board of Niagara trustees, including Alex Bradnam (17.66 per cent), Lora Campbell (16.21 per cent), Kate Baggott (15.76 per cent) and Jonathan Fast (14.28 per cent).
Voters also selected trustees for the Niagara Catholic District School Board and the winners include Natalia Benoit (38.90 per cent) and Larry Huibers (34.46 per cent).
Melinda Chartrand is acclaimed for the French Language Catholic School Board.
There is no candidate for the French Language Public School Board seat in the combined area of Fort Erie, Niagara Falls, Niagara on the Lake, Pelham, Port Colborne, St. Catharines, Thorold, Wainfleet, and Welland. After the election, a trustee will be chosed by the Welland clerk in cooperation with the School Board.
Welland
Welland elects one mayor, two regional councillors and has six wards with two elected councillors each.
Mayor
Frank Campion has been elected to serve Welland for a third term, edging out challenger Jeffery David Walters with close to 6,500 votes as of 10:27 pm.
Regional councillors
Incumbent regional councillors Pat Chiocchio and Leanna Villella have been reelected, garnering 6,823 and 6,860 votes, respectively. Challenger Mamdouh Abdelmaksoud trails with 3,316 votes.

In Ward 1, incumbents Mary Ann Grimaldi and Adam Moote have retained their seats.
In Ward 2, Leo Van Vliet and David McLeod have also been reelected.
In Ward 3, John Chiocchio has retained his seat, while fellow incumbent John Mastroianni appears to have lost to Sharmila Setaram.
In Ward 4, incumbents Bryan Green and Tony Dimarco have been reelected.
In Ward 5, Graham Speck and Claudette Richard have retained their seats.
In Ward 6, Bonnie Fokkens appears to have retained her seat, while fellow incumbent Jim Larouche trails Jamie Lee by one vote.
School board trustees
Residents have elected Sue Barnett as trustee for the District School Board of Niagara. Paul Turner will serve as trustee for the Niagara Catholic District School Board. Jo-Anne Thibodeau is acclaimed for the French Language Catholic School Board.
St. Catharines
The City of St. Catharines elects one mayor, six regional councillors and has six wards with two councillors each.
Mayor
Niagara Regional Councillor Mat Siscoe is the new mayor of St. Catharines, netting close to 69 per cent of the vote as of 10:46 pm. He beat out challenger and fellow regional councillor Mike Britton (25.18 per cent) and political newcomer Nick Petrucci (6.07 per cent).

Six regional councillors were chosen to represent the City for the next four years, including Jim Bradley (16.30 per cent), Laura Ip (10.56 per cent), Haley Bateman (9.58 per cent), Peter Secord (7.83 per cent), Timothy Rigby (7.61 per cent) and Sal Sorrento (7.50 per cent).

In Ward 1 (Merritton), Greg Miller (26.33 per cent) and Jacqueline (Jackie) Lindal (22.42 per cent) have been elected.
In Ward 2 (St. Andrew’s), incumbents Joseph Kushner (26.08 per cent) and Matt Harris (24.90 per cent) have held onto their seats
In Ward 3 (St. George’s), incumbent Keven Townsend (32.51 per cent) has held onto his seat and Mark Stevens (25.07 per cent) has been elected.
In Ward 4 (St. Patrick’s), incumbent Robin McPherson (24.73 per cent) has been reelected. Caleb Ratzlaff (23.22 per cent) has been elected.
In Ward 5 (Grantham), incumbents Dawn Dodge (36.34 per cent) and Bill Phillips (36.34 per cent) have been reelected.
In Ward 6 (Port Dalhousie), incumbents Carlos Garcia (38.03 per cent) and Bruce Williamson (37.97 per cent) have retained their seats.
School board trustees
Residents have elected four trustees for the District School Board of Niagara, including Lora Campbell, Kate Baggott, Jonathan Fast and Alex Bradnam. Rhianon Burkholder has been elected trustee for the Niagara Catholic District School Board in Ward 1 and Natalia Benoir and Larry Huibers have been elected trustees for the same board in Wards 2 to 6.
