St. Catharines, Niagara, police, arrest, knife, chase

A Lincoln man has been charged in connection to child pornography after Niagara Police raided his home today (Oct. 5) and found a link to an instant messaging application that they allege contained explicit sexual content of children.

The Niagara Police’s Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit has been investigating the man from the Beamsville area since last month and brought in their Technological Crimes Unit to compare the evidence obtained today with the instant messaging application, KIK Messenger.

As a result, police say they identified an “anonymous” account that contained explicit sexual content of children.

Hunter Beaupre-Peters, 25, of Beamsville has been charged with three separate counts all connected to possessing child pornography and making it available.

He was held in custody after his arrest and will have a bail hearing today at the courthouse in St. Catharines.

Niagara Police are warning parents that “children communicating with strangers online can pose a risk to their safety. Applications that allow users to hide their identity and create anonymous accounts can be particularly dangerous to children.  Offenders who hide behind an anonymous account to sexually exploit children can be identified.”
