The first day of the FIFA Fan Festival of the 2026 World Cup in Toronto has been shut down due to a risk of lightning, the city says.
“The decision was not made lightly, however safety is our utmost priority,” the City of Toronto said in a statement.
The evacuation happened midway through the match between Mexico and South Africa. The FIFA Fan Festival won’t reopen on Thursday, and the move to evacuate was made “out of abundance of caution,” the city says.
