A library in Mississauga’s west end will be closed for nearly seven weeks this summer for major renovations, the city says.
Erin Meadows Library, located at Erin Centre Boulevard and Glen Erin Drive, will shut down to the public from July 13 until Aug. 30, Mississauga Ward 9 Coun. Martin Reid said in his latest newsletter to the community.
“These important improvements will help modernize the facility, address key infrastructure needs and enhance the experience for everyone who uses the space,” the councillor said of the planned renovations.
Work to be completed includes:
- New flooring and the addition of a studio and makerspace.
- Roof replacement over the library, fitness change rooms and community centre program rooms.
- Replacement of the clerestory windows in the public corridor.
- Installation of safety bollards at the north and south entrances.
During the closure, residents can continue to access library services at either Meadowvale Library (6655 Glen Erin Dr.) or Churchill Meadows Library (3801 Thomas St.), the city said.
“Thank you to our residents for your patience and understanding while this important work is underway,” Reid said in his newsletter. “These upgrades will help ensure Erin Meadows Library and Community Centre remains a welcoming, modern and accessible space for our community for years to come.”
Officials noted all due dates will be extended to the end of the closure period.
Library, community centre received major makeover 2 years ago
Erin Meadows Community Centre and Library was given a major makeover on the outside two years ago, officially reopening to residents in early August 2024 with a fresh look.
Sporting a new appearance that included an updated entrance sign, fresh pavement and improved walkways, and improvements to lighting, among other upgrades, the facility reintroduced itself to residents when work was completed in July 2024.
Renovations began in August 2023 and the outdoor redevelopment plan also included:
- Improved walkway connections
- Planting enhancements
- Artificial turf flexible space
- Seating improvements
- Sensory garden planters

Ward 9 Coun. Martin Reid and Pat Saito, the ward’s previous councillor, check out new outdoor seating at the community centre in summer 2024.
Renovations focused on the exterior of the large building, which also includes St. Aloysius Gonzaga Secondary School.
The Erin Meadows Community Centre and Library Outdoor Redevelopment project sought to “renew the aging landscape fronting the corner of Erin Centre Boulevard and Glen Erin Drive to improve pedestrian circulation, views and flexible use space,” Reid said earlier.
Upgrades were also completed to the basketball and pickleball courts at the facility.
Erin Meadows Community Centre and Library was Mississauga’s first shared-use facility. It was built under a joint partnership between the City of Mississauga, the Mississauga Library Board and the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board.
Such agreements reduce capital costs for all partners.
