Federal Member of Parliament for the Town of Milton, Adam van Koeverden, has issued a “good luck” message to a local athlete heading to the Beijing 2022 Olympics next month.

Milton Skating Club’s Madeline Schizas recently qualified for Team Canada after winning gold in the Canadian National Skating Championship and will be going to the Beijing 2022 Olympics in February to compete in women’s figure skating.

As a result, van Koeverden posted a heartfelt message on Twitter about the 18-year-old Oakville native, who is also Milton Public Library’s first community ambassador.

“So glad I got the chance to say GOOD LUCK to Milton’s own Maddie Schizas as she puts on the final touches before heading off to her first Olympics in Figure Skating! Have fun Maddie! Milton will be cheering for you,” he wrote in a tweet.

Schizas began skating at the age of three and is the 2020 International Challenge Cup bronze medalist as well as the 2020 Canadian national bronze medalist.
