One of Hamilton’s most popular blocks is getting more musical.

The Acoustic Room is leaving James St. and taking over 229 Locke St. South — formerly a dog cafe at the corner of Locke and Alexander St.

Owned by Mark Pongetti, the Acoustic Room promises a “comfortable and friendly environment for you to see, hear, feel and experience the instruments that may be your next investment.”

The Acoustic Room also carries vintage, pre-owned, and new electric guitars.

If the name Pongetti rings a bell, it’s because Pongetti is synonymous with music in Hamilton.

Mark’s father, Rolando, opened Pongetti’s Music in 1957 on Barton St. East before relocating to Upper James.

Pongetti’s was in business for nearly 56 years before closing shortly after Christmas 2012. The store was hit hard by the recession and eventually, the changing habits of consumers opting to shop for instruments online.

The Acoustic Room has an online shop to complement its new storefront location on Locke.

Their James St. location closed officially last Friday, and a grand opening date has yet to be announced on Locke.
