Heather Chan, of Mississauga, wins lottery.

Heather Chan is ecstatic she checked off one particular item on her mental to-do list a few Wednesdays ago — and her memory kicked in just in time.

The Mississauga woman, who works in administration, rode a last-minute lottery ticket purchase to a second-prize win of $204,428 in the April 10 Lotto 6/49 draw.

Chan, a weekly lottery player, said this is her first big win.

“I decided to open an OLG.ca account for convenience. The night of the draw, I remembered to buy my ticket with only a half hour before sales closed,” she said while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up her winnings. “The next morning, I saw an email from OLG and it looked different than other emails. I logged into my account and I was shocked.

“I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I kept telling myself to stay calm,” Chan continued. “My family is so happy for me. This win has come at a perfect time.”

The big winner said she plans to make the most of her good fortune.

“I will save it for now before making any big decisions,” she said. “This win feels like a breath of fresh air.”

The winning ticket was purchased on OLG.ca.
