Just two new COVID-19 cases in Durham Sunday; none for Pickering after six Saturday

Just two new COVID-19 cases were reported in Durham Region Sunday – the lowest total in many months – after a Friday-Saturday total of eight and ten new cases were reported.

There are still no residents hospitalized with the virus and the active case total is down to 44.

Pickering recorded nine new cases over the three days, including region highs of three and six on Friday and Saturday before finishing the weekend with a zero new case day. No other municipality reported more than three over the three days and Whitby reported just one new case.

Brock and Scugog had perfect zero days through the weekend and both communities have enjoyed a perfect run through the past week.

There are also no institutional outbreaks at Durham long-term care homes to report and just two schools are reporting a total of two students who are home isolating.

There remain two small workplace outbreaks.

The vaccination rate for Durham’s 12-and-over population is now at 83 per cent.
