June 30 weather: Thunderstorm risk and heat warnings in southern Ontario

Tuesday could bring showers, thunderstorms and a high that feels hotter than 40 C to the Greater Toronto Area and southern Ontario.

Environment Canada says the morning will bring a mix of sun and cloudy conditions to Toronto, Mississauga and Brampton, Hamilton, Oshawa and the Niagara Falls area.

There’s a 40 per cent chance of showers early in the day followed by a risk of thunderstorms, the weather agency says. Wind gusts could reach up to 50 km/h in Mississauga.

Heat warnings and alerts have been issued for much of southern Ontario, with a high of 33 C that could feel more like 42 C due to the humidity possible in Toronto.

The UV index will be a 9 of “very high,” Environment Canada says.

Tuesday night will be partly cloudy with another 40 per cent chance of showers and a risk of thunderstorms. Wind gusts could again reach up to 50 km/h across the GTA with a low of around 26 C.
