June 13 weather: High of 30 C and thunderstorm risk in parts of southern Ontario

Saturday could bring strong wind gusts to the Greater Toronto Area and a risk of thunderstorms in parts of southern Ontario.

Environment Canada says the morning will be sunny in Toronto, Mississauga, Brampton, Hamilton and Niagara Falls, with a 30 per cent chance of showers in the Oshawa area.

A southwest wind blowing around 30 km/h could gust up to 50 km/h in Mississauga and Toronto in the afternoon.

The daytime high will b e around 30 C, but could feel more like 33 C due to the humidity. The UV index will be 8 or “high,” the weather agency says.

The afternoon could also bring thunderstorms to Oshawa, Pickering, Caledon and other parts of the province.

Saturday night is expected to be cloudy with more wind gusts up to 50 km/h possible, dying down around midnight. The overnight low will be around 18 C in Mississauga, the weather agency says.

Looking ahead to Sunday, there’s a risk of significant rainfall in parts of southern Ontario, including the Bruce Peninsula, parts of cottage country, east to Ottawa. Showers and thunderstorms are expected in Mississauga and the GTA with a high of 22 C and a low of 9 C.

Sunny skies are expected to return on Monday with a high of 21 C.
