What has four wheels and fries?

The answer to that riddle would be the Jollibee Mobile Kitchen, a first-of-its-kind endeavour whose grand opening on on Hamilton Mountain will take place on Thursday (Sept. 2). The innovative kitchen on wheels, or “movable restaurant concept,” is the brainchild of a partnership between the Filipino fast-food company Jollibee and DoorDash. It will be parked in the southwest corner of the Limeridge Mall parking lot (999 Upper Wentworth St.).

The restaurant will be set up to take orders exclusively through online ordering. Orders for signature items such as signature Jolly Crispy Chicken, Jolly Spaghetti and Peach Mango Pie, can be made for pickup or delivery through DoorDash or Jollibee’s online channels (jollibeefoods.com or the new Jollibee app). The mobile kitchen will service customer orders seven days a week, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. It has a smaller menus than the brick-and-mortar stores.

The mobile concept involved transforming a flatbed trailer into a fully customized working kitchen that features state-of-the-art fryers, optimized utility connectivity, and ample storage and refrigeration space, according to a media release.

Jollibee and DoorDash plan on keeping the mobile kitchen in Hamilton for at least six months. Eventually it will travel to another locale in North America.

“The mobile kitchen provides the ideal platform to serve our customers in a more flexible and far-reaching capacity, especially in communities where we don’t yet have a physical store location,” stated Maribeth Dela Cruz, president of Jollibee Foods Corporation North America, Philippine Brands.

Jollibee has locations in four provinces and 12 U.S. states. Its other locations in Ontario are in Mississauga, Brampton and Toronto.
