While temperatures are already high, they’ll feel even more scorching with the humidity.

Environment Canada says a heat warning is in effect for Hamilton.

The weather agency says maximum daytime temperatures near 31 degrees with humidex values near 38 or 39 are expected today (Aug. 24).

Temperatures will be a few degrees cooler on Tuesday due to the passage of a cold front.

“Hot and humid air can also bring deteriorating air quality and cause the Air Quality Health Index to approach the high-risk category,” Environment Canada says on its website.

“The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.”

Residents are reminded to never leave people or pets inside of parked vehicles.
