UPDATE: Brampton’s Commissioner of Planning, Building and Growth Management told INsauga.com on Friday that the bylaw “is not ready for public consultation” and the public information session has been cancelled.
The commissioner says a new public meeting date will be released shortly. The original story follows below.
Residents are invited to give their feedback on a proposed Inclusionary Zoning bylaw that could see affordable housing units come to Brampton’s major transit station area.
The virtual public information session coming later this month will give residents an overview of the proposed bylaw “and gather community input on the requirements to help refine the final draft,” the city says.
Inclusionary Zoning is a planning tool that allows municipalities to require affordable housing in major transit station areas, allowing for “mixed-income housing developments” in areas with “significant transit investment where the market alone may not deliver affordable options.”
“By adopting Inclusionary Zoning, Brampton can foster complete, inclusive communities where people of all incomes have the opportunity to live, work and enjoy their city,” the city says in a release.
The virtual information session is being held on Sept. 22 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Residents need to register in advance of the event to receive a link and join the session.
