Halton Regional Police have revealed the name of the person arrested in connection with the city’s first homicide of 2023.

Sandor Somogyi, 70, of Burlington is now charged with first-degree murder.

He is now in custody and is next scheduled to appear in court on Thursday (Jan. 26).

It was on Jan. 13 that police were called to an apartment unit at 695 Regency Crt. after receiving reports that a woman was unconscious at the scene. When officers arrived they found that the woman had died.

After a short investigation, an arrest was made at the scene.

At the time police said there was no outside threat to public safety as the incident was isolated to a specific apartment unit.

Originally police did not release the names of the person charged or the victim at the request of the victim’s family.
