Hundreds of Hamilton students to take over Tim Hortons Field for Tiger-Cats football program
The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced the return of the FirstOn the Field Flag Football program. Over 200 students will hit the turf at Tim Hortons Field.

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats announced the return of the FirstOn the Field Flag Football program on Monday.

Over 200 students across Hamilton will hit the turf at Tim Hortons Field and learn the fundamentals of football with Ticats players Simoni Lawrence, Dylan Wynn, Chris Van Zeyl, Rich Leonard, Mason Bennett, Alden Darby, Alex Fontana, and Stavros Katsantonis.

The free program, launched in 2017, is presented by FirstOntario Credit Union.

“FirstOn the Field is a great program designed to help students increase their physical activity and learn the importance of a healthy lifestyle while having fun at the same time,” said FirstOntario SVP of marketing, Joanne Battaglia.

“This is one of the many benefits of our partnership with the Ticats – working together to support youth health and wellness and making a positive impact in our community.”

The program will take place over two days, Sept. 27 and 28, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

“We’re excited to have the opportunity to introduce the next generation of Ticats and CFL fans to football in a safe and engaging way,” said Courtney Stephen, Director of Community Partnerships, Hamilton Sports Group.

Participating schools will be given transportation to and from the event, and each participant will receive a FirstOntario gift bag, complete with a FirstOn the Field Flag Football t-shirt and a personalized Ticats nameplate.
