Hundreds of people lined up for COVID-19 vaccination shots this morning at a central Mississauga GO-VAXX pop-up, and many others said they didn’t bother to join the queue because there wasn’t enough shots for everyone.

The first person in line to await the GO-VAXX bus mobile clinic at RioCan Grand Park, near Burnhamthorpe and Mavis Rds., was reportedly there just before 5 a.m.

It didn’t take long for the lineup to grow to dozens in number, and then hundreds, according to people who passed by the pop-up clinic.

The mobile vaccine clinic is scheduled to be at that location from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. administering first doses for children ages 5-11, first and second doses for people born in 2009 or earlier and booster shots (third doses) for those ages 50 and older among other eligible groups.

A number of residents commenting on a Reddit discussion thread under the header “There is a huge lineup” at the Grand Park plaza,  didn’t seem to think it was worth getting in line themselves.

Just after 9 a.m., one commenter stated: “How huge is huge? Was thinking of heading over, but now wondering if I’m already too late…”

Peel Public Health officials said some 250 shots are available at the Grand Park pop-up today, and another person who commented on the Reddit thread said there was no point in joining the long lineup.

“Too late! We drove there 20 minutes ago and the line looked ridiculously long. And they only have 200 (shots),” they said, just before 9 a.m.

At about 8:30 a.m., another Reddit commenter said: “I just drove by the area and I’d say the line is a few hundred people long. It stretches all along Grand Park (Dr.) and then onto Burnhamthorpe (Rd.) as well.”

Another added: “Hundreds. Definitely more than how many booster shots they have. No social distancing, either.”

The Grand Park pop-up clinic is one of many the Region of Peel is organizing across Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon as residents scramble to protect themselves against the new Omicron variant of the virus.
