Hamilton, known for its ongoing development and growth, has experienced a significant surge in building permits and construction projects, post pandemic.

Evidenced by the impressive number of cranes currently dotting the city’s skyline.

Currently, there are 21 large cranes actively engaged in various building projects across Hamilton.

In an interview last week(June 16), inthehammer.com publisher Khaled Iwamura spoke with Mayor Andrea Horwath, expressed her excitement about the city’s progress.

“I used to walk to city hall and pray every day, hoping to catch sight of a crane. I wanted to see a crane in the sky.”

Horwath, who was a former city councillor from 1997 to 2004, vividly recounted her desire to witness cranes gracing the Hamilton skyline.

“I spent seven years without witnessing a single crane,” she added.

Given her experience, the Mayor said she was delighted in the current abundance of cranes across the city.

“Majority of these cranes are located in the older areas of Hamilton, while a few can be spotted in suburban communities like Stoney Creek and Ancaster.”

Hamilton’s skyline continues to evolve as new structures take shape, ranging from residential buildings to commercial complexes, and contributing to the city’s urban revitalization. With 4,656 permits issued, the city ranks fourth in permits volume, according to a recent report by the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC).
