The Brampton Honey Badgers are teaming up with a local basketball association to help develop the sport in Brampton and work with the up-and-coming players and coaches.

The Honey Badgers announced on Tuesday (July 18) a partnership between the Canadian Elite Basketball League team and the Brampton Minor Basketball Association (BMBA).

A not-for-profit basketball organization, the BMBA is affiliated with the city and is the bedrock of many basketball programs in the city including the Brampton Warriors, and has produced post-secondary athletes and players who’ve gone on to play in the NBA.

The BMBA offers basketball development programs ranging from house league teams to elite training camps, and the partnership will see the organizations work together on a long-term plan to develop the sport in Brampton.

The Honey Badgers will also take one BMBA coach under their wing for an apprenticeship program during the 024 CEBL season, taking part in training camp, team practices, and a number of Honey Badgers games.

“One day, we will see graduates from the Brampton Warriors coaching and playing with their local pro basketball team, the Brampton Honey Badgers,” said Michael Cvitkovic, president of the Brampton Honey Badgers. “We are excited to partner with BMBA to further enhance their programming and promote participation.”

The City of Brampton recently declared July 26 as “Brampton Honey Badgers, We Are Brampton Day,” and the team says the BMBA will play a role in celebrating the occasion with appearances and media interviews, ending with a nationally-televised game at Brampton’s CAA Centre broadcast on TSN.
