A historic home that was in rough condition is now restored and up for sale.
The historic William Barber House was once a family home and more recently a fine-dining restaurant but the property has undergone a huge transformation.
The property at 5155 Mississauga Rd. in Erin Mills was sold back in 2016 and is part of a residential development. The historic home was the Old Barber House restaurant but it closed on Dec. 23, 2016.

The Old Barber House restaurant closed in 2016.
In 2018, Mississauga Council approved the application from City Park Homes to build 16 three-storey townhouses, five, three-storey detached homes, and four, two-storey back-to-back dwelling units.
The project is now complete including the restoration of William Barber House into a four-unit building.
Back in June 2022, the home looked rough as work had started to restore some of the original, 1800s features.

In June 2022, the home was undergoing restoration.
The canopy, white paint and other elements added more recently were removed.
The home gets its name from the Barber family who came to Canada in 1822 from Ireland.
The Barber brothers bought the land in 1844 for £1,375 but the home wasn’t built until around 1860. William Barber, one of the founders of the Toronto Woollen Mills, bought the property from his brother Robert in 1870 for $4,000.
And now, one unit in the home is listed for $869,000.
The unit for sale in the fourplex is a freehold, fully renovated with pot lights, vinyl flooring, a new kitchen with quartz counters and stainless steel appliances.

It is about 1,100 to 1,500 square feet, is on two storeys and has two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
A plaque outside the home describes the history.
