Highest paid Brampton employee made $345K last year
Paul Morrison, Commissioner of Legislative Services for the City of Brampton, made a $345,122.53 salary in 2023.

Numbers have been released showing what City of Brampton employees took home this year, revealing the highest-paid city employee earns more than seven times what the average worker makes.

The annual Ontario Sunshine List was published on Thursday, naming all public sector employees in the province who earned $100,000 or more in 2023.

The last two Sunshine Lists showed it was former city employees who made the highest salaries in those years. Former Brampton chief administrative officer (CAO) Harry Schlange was at the top of the salary pyramid for 2021 ($288,366.60) despite not working for the City of Brampton for years, while former CAO David Barrick was the highest earner in 2022 ($288,272).

But the trend of former workers making top dollar broke this year with Paul Morrison, Brampton Commissioner of Legislative Services, pulling in a $345,122.53 salary and $38,785.24 in taxable benefits.

And with Statistics Canada saying the average income in Brampton was just $45,400 in 2021, Morrison’s more than $345,000 salary is more than 7.6 times higher than the average resident’s.

Morrison was Director of Bylaw Services at the city until Barrick was let go in February 2022 when he was appointed interim CAO. He was then moved to legislative services following the appointment of Marlon Kallideen as full-time CAO, who ranked just below Morrison on the list with a salary of $309,471.78 in 2023.

Barrick is still pulling a salary despite not working for the city since 2022, earning $267,413.41 of Brampton taxpayer money last year. He is the current CAO for the Municipality of Thames Centre and was appointed to the position in May 2023.

Other Brampton standouts on the list include Brampton Fire and Emergency Services Chief Bill Boyes ($272,070.92), Commissioner of Corporate Support Services Alex Milojevic ($254,820.95) and former City Clerk Peter Fay ($216,905.80) who retired in January.

As for members of Brampton City Council, Mayor Patrick Brown was the highest paid last year with a salary of $149,022.06 and $19,059.24 in taxable benefits.
