The Ancaster Ice Cream Parlour announced Tuesday (Sept. 29) that they will soon be closing their doors at their longtime location on Wilson Street.

The parlour, which has been in business for decades and has been helmed by several different owners, said their final day of operations will be Monday, October 12.

“It is with extremely heavy hearts that we are being forced to vacate the property that Ancaster Ice Cream Parlour has occupied for the last 28 years,” a Facebook post announcing the closure says.

“Five years ago, we took over this establishment from the previous owners who decided it was their time to retire, and we have loved every minute of our journey with you.”

This Ancaster institution has earned a reputation over the years for their friendly service, dozens of ice cream flavours and as a reliable go-to for families looking for quality treats and traditions.

Over the years, the Parlour also grew to include the sale of Christmas trees in the weeks leading up to the holiday, as well as selling flowers on Easter and Mother’s Day.

“Even during the struggles we’ve all faced with COVID 19, we have tried so incredibly hard to make our establishment a place the community can be proud of,” the letter to customers says.

“A place where friends could still meet with one another in a socially distanced and safe environment, and where you could enjoy a nice treat before returning to what our world has become.”

Despite the ongoing support of the community though, the owners say that the pressures of the pandemic, coupled with an ongoing dispute with the building’s landlord has forced the owners to reconsider their current location.

“We want to let you all know that we are already in search of a new location, with a few promising leads, and still plan to reopen in the spring of 2021, at a new home in Ancaster,” the letter says.

“To show our appreciation to everyone in our community we will be discounting our ice cream cones on our Last Day of the season in this location.”

The new location will be announced as soon as it is determined, and plans are still in the works to sell Christmas trees starting in November.

“We are also still planning on selling Christmas trees this year and will let everyone know where this will take place as soon as possible as well.”

So while many will be sorry to see the closure of the popular shop, they are reassuring customers that all efforts are being made to keep the business in or as near as possible to its current location.
