Here’s How Tax Rates Varied in Halton and Surrounding Areas in 2018

And although there are many aspects included in a budget that directly impact residents one of the main things that is often looked at, and increased, is property taxes. The town of Milton recently released, via Twitter, some information regarding how tax rates varied in Halton and surrounding areas in 2018.

Here’s what was found.
In 2018 Milton’s tax rate was $242 per $100,000 of assessment, this differs quite a bit from other areas in Halton. Oakville’s tax rate was $313, Burlington’s was $357, and Halton Hills’ was $364. These numbers also differed from other tax rates in the GTA, such as Mississauga, Brampton, and Caledon, as outlined in the graphic below.
So, how will these numbers stack up this year?
According to the Town of Milton, Milton’s 2019 budget consists of a local property tax increase of $20.11 per $100,000, and, although no approved or refused yet, the Burlington 2019 budget recommends a city tax increase of 3.99 per cent. In Oakville this year residential property taxes will be increasing by 1.53 per cent, or by $11.72 per $100,000 of assessment. In Halton Hills, taxes will be increasing this year by 3.9 per cent.
Halton’s 2019 regional budget, according to the Halton Region official website, includes a 1.9 per cent property tax increase for Regional services and a 3.7 per cent rate increase for water and wastewater services.
The total increase in Mississauga’s residential property tax this year will be 2.90 per cent. This increase includes 1.56 per cent for city services and 1.34 per cent for Region of Peel services.
Brampton’s approved 2019 budget has not yet been released
