Heat warning issued as it could feel like 37 C in parts of Ontario

A heat warning has been issued for parts of Ontario where it could feel like 37 C.

Environment Canada has issued the yellow weather alert for northwestern areas of the province, including Kenora, Sioux Lookout, and Fort Frances.

A multi-day “heat event” begins on Tuesday, forecasters said.

The heat event is currently expected to end on Thursday, but it might continue into Friday.

Daytime highs of 29 C to 31 C are expected, with humidex values of 33 to 37.

Overnight, the temperature will drop to 17 C to 20 C, which won’t provide much relief, Environment Canada said.

“Take action to protect yourself and others – extreme heat can affect everyone’s health,” the alert said.

“Determine if you or others around you are at greater risk of heat illness. Check on older adults, those living alone and other at-risk people in-person or on the phone multiple times a day.”

Meanwhile, Environment Canada is warning of active weather in a different area of the province.

Total rainfall amounts of 50 to 100 millimetres are possible in areas east of Oshawa, including Belleville, Prince Edward County, Kingston, Napanee, Ottawa and Cornwall, according to a special weather statement.

A low pressure system is expected to stall over the area on Tuesday, continuing through to Wednesday morning, the statement reads.
