Health care workers in Durham Region will be rallying against provincial cutbacks at noon Thursday at Lakeridge Health’s Oshawa site.
The workers, represented by CUPE 6364, will be protesting “intensifying workloads and worsening patient care” at the hospital as Lakeridge Health tries to reduce costs amid provincial funding cuts.
Over the past year, CUPE said, about 40 jobs have been eliminated in Oshawa as demand for care continues to rise.
“Unmanageable workloads and job cuts are taking their toll on staff and patient care. It’s time to fight back.”
The protest will take place at Alexandria Park, directly north of the hospital.
