With summer just days away and beaches in Durham Region now open with lifeguards on duty the free lifejacket loaner program is back at Lakeview Park Beach in Oshawa.
Lifeguards are on duty from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. every day – weather and conditions permitting – until September 1 and the free life jacket program (sponsored by the Hamilton-Oshawa Port Authority) is available during and outside lifeguard hours.
Lifejackets in various sizes are available at the beach at the Lifejacket Loaner Station sign near the beach hut. Swimmers are asked to return lifejackets after each use.

Before heading to the beach, check for updates on closures at durham.ca/Beaches and remember these water safety tips:
- Swim only in designated areas
- Always swim while under supervision
- Swim with a buddy
- Never rely on a lifejacket alone – education and supervision matter
Most drownings are preventable. Learn more at lifesavingsociety.com
You can also cool off this summer in Oshawa at Camp Samac Outdoor Pool in the city’s north end, beginning June 23 (schedule available at oshawa.ca/Swim) or at one Oshawa’s 13 splash pads, which are open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. until September 1.
