An armed man in downtown Ajax and a head-on collision that sent a woman to a Toronto trauma centre just to the north kept Durham Police’s West Division busy Saturday.

The armed person call and several police cars were dispatched to one of a string of low-rise buildings off Harwood Avenue, just south of Ajax Town Hall.

Officers checked the area but the suspect’s vehicle had fled the scene and police could not find him.

The original caller said the driver of gun seen on the street was armed with a gun.

The accident occurred on Lakeridge Avenue at Highway 7 at the Pickering-Whitby border.

There are no other serious injuries reported besides the woman who was taken to the trauma centre with serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Both cars suffered severe damage. Police have promised more information when possible.
