A Brampton man already on a weapons ban is facing drugs and firearms charges following a raid in Brampton this week.

Peel Regional Police say officers from the Strategic and Tactical Enforcement Policing Unit (STEP) unit and members of the police Tactical Unit searched a home at an undisclosed location in Brampton on Monday.

During the raid, police say officers found a Glock handgun, several magazines and a quantity of drugs, and a 23-year-old man from Brampton was arrested.

Police have charged Xavier Emerson, 23, of Brampton with multiple offences including knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm, two counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited device and four counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Police say the accused was held for bail hearings and appeared before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. The accused was also breaching two separate recognizance orders for firearms and other related offences and was on a weapons prohibition at the time of the arrest, police say.
