A Hamilton community centre is closing for maintenance for several weeks this fall.

On Oct. 2, Bennetto Community Centre at 450 Hughson St. N., will be closed for scheduled maintenance work on the roof and HVAC system, according to the City of Hamilton.

Parts of the roof will be replaced and the HVAC ductwork units will be removed and reinstalled. The work is part of a preventative maintenance program. Building condition assessments are done every five to seven years to determine when maintenance or larger capital replacement work is required.

The community centre offers drop-in swimming and gym facilities as well as an auditorium and activity rooms.

During the closure, residents are encouraged to participate in programs that have been relocated to Norman Pinky Lewis Recreation Complex, 192 Wentworth St. N. and Ryerson Recreation Centre, 251 Duke St.

Work will be paused on-site to accommodate advanced and election day polling stations for the 2022 Municipal Election on Oct. 7, 8, 14, 15 and 24.

But following this pause, work will resume, and the city plans to reopen the centre in early winter.

The City of Hamilton thanked residents for their patience.
