Hamilton traffic stop leads to drugs, weapons charges for two men: Police

Hamilton Police said a malfunctioning license plate light has led to the arrest of two men who now face a long list of drugs and weapons charges.

According to police, on Wednesday morning (June 1), shortly before 3 a.m., officers stopped a car in the area of King Street E near Emerald Street N in central Hamilton for not having a functioning rear license plate light.

A search of the car and its occupants, police said, uncovered a small amount of crack cocaine, a loaded Glock firearm and bullets.

Two 25-year-old men, one from Hamilton and the other from Toronto, were arrested at the scene.

The Hamilton man is facing the following charges:

  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possession Contrary to Order
  • Possession Schedule 1- Cocaine
  • Possessing Cannabis for the Purpose of Selling

The man from Toronto is facing the following charges:

  • Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Possess Firearm with altered Serial Number
  • Prohibited Firearm- Loaded
  • Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of Firearm
  • Fail To Comply Probation X2
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order X2
  • Possessing Cannabis For The Purpose of Selling
  • Proceeds of Crime Under $5000

Police said both men have had their bail opposed.
