A Hamilton resident faces weapon charges after a cyclist spotted a person with a firearm on the Lynn Valley Trail in Simcoe, Norfolk County.
The cyclist saw a person on the trail with a firearm on Thursday (Sept. 1) shortly after 2 p.m. and called 9-1-1., said Norfolk County OPP Const. Ed Sanchuk.
OPP officers, the OPP Canine Unit and emergency response team arrived at the trail and located a suspect. The suspect was taken into custody without incident, he said.
Sanchuk praised the efforts of the good Samaritan.
“That cyclist had contacted 9-1-1 and immediately reported their concerns and as a direct result of their phone call officers were able to get into this area…and take this individual to custody,” said Sanchuk. “So, I just want to say thank you for having the courage to contact police.”
A 38-year-old Hamilton resident is charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and three counts of failing to comply with a probation order.
