Suspect wanted by Hamilton police for attempted robbery at knifepoint

Police in Hamilton are searching for a man who they say attempted to rob a downtown business at knifepoint. The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s. He is between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-8 with an average build and police believe the suspect has a tattoo on his right hand.

The Hamilton Police BEAR Unit is handling the investigation.

On Sunday (Aug. 29) at approximately 12:45 a.m., police say an unknown suspect entered a business in downtown Hamilton and approached the counter and made a demand for money. The suspect brandished a pocketknife, according to reports.

The robbery was not successful and the suspect “ultimately left empty-handed,” according to an official media release from the Hamiton Police Service (HPS).

No injuries were reported and the suspect was last seen in the area of Woodlands Park at the corner of Barton St East and Sanford Ave North.

 “The knife used by the suspect is described as a silver pocketknife and is still outstanding,” said HPS.

The suspect is described as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s. He is between 5-foot-5 and 5-foot-8 with an average build and police believe the suspect has a tattoo on his right hand.
