The Hamilton Police Service busted five local businesses to sell shisha mixed with tobacco, which violates tobacco laws at multiple government levels.

The Hamilton Police Service busted five local businesses to sell shisha mixed with tobacco, which violates tobacco laws at multiple government levels.

The operation, dubbed Project Smoke by Hamilton Police, resulted in five individuals being charged, 20 total charges being laid, and 26 pounds of suspected tobacco mixed with shisha being seized.

Police would not release the names of the individuals are businesses involved in the investigation.

Police say the project was “focused on local shisha establishments to ensure their compliance of the Liquor Licence and Control Act, Tobacco Tax Act, Tackling Contraband Tobacco Act, and Smoke-Free Ontario Act.”

Police were assisted by the City of Hamilton and the Ministry of Finance.
