Hamilton Police are asking motorists to avoid two areas in the city Tuesday (April 5) as they investigate two serious crashes that appear to be connected.

In one of the incidents, a pedestrian was struck by a car in the area of Park and Herkimer Streets in downtown Hamilton shortly after 11 a.m.

The pedestrian was transported to hospital with serious injuries. Motorists are being told to expect significant delays in the area of the crash as the investigation is underway.

A short time after the first crash, police reported that they arrested a man involved in another crash on Hamilton Mountain who is believed to be involved in the crash on Park Street.

In the meantime, Garth Street is closed in both directions between Bendamere and Sanatorium for the investigation into the second crash.
