Hamilton Police appeal for witnesses following sexual assault on escarpment stairs

Hamilton Police are investigating a sexual assault that took place Tuesday morning (Dec. 14) near the James Street South escarpment stairs.

Police said the incident occurred between 9 and 9:30 a.m. Tuesday and they are asking members of the public who might have been in the area at the time to come forward.

Investigators say they believe there were people using the stairs, which provides access from James South to the top of the Claremont Access, at the time of the incident and they likely saw something.

The suspect is described as follows:

  • Male, white
  • 5’8 to 5’10
  • Athletic build
  • Wearing an orange bandana or facemask covering
  • Black-hooded sweatshirt, with the hood up
  • Black pants

Neighbours and community members who may have been in the area between 9 and 10 a.m. are being asked to check security cameras, including any dashcam footage, for anyone that matches the suspect’s description.
