Hamilton’s Christopher Cutler is being remembered for his advocacy and community leadership in the wake of his sudden passing on Monday (Feb. 7).
The Rotary Club of Hamilton, of which Cutler was an active member and served as president for a time, announced the news on Tuesday.
Since then, tributes from across the community have poured in, with many remembering Cutler’s kindness and devotion to the community he served so diligently.
“He was a truly decent person who devoted his life to serving his community,” said MP Filomena Tassi in a Tweet.
“A champion of human rights and opportunity for all. A kind light has been extinguished in #HamOnt. RIP.”

Cutler was a longtime advisor to Mayor Fred Eisenberger, who shared a statement on Wednesday (Feb. 9) on the passing of his friend:
“Christopher was often found at the forefront of community-based initiatives, discussions, challenges and solutions,” the statement said.
“Recognizing the ever-changing landscape in Hamilton and the power of community, Christopher invested his talents to build trust and bridge gaps. His calm demeanour, willingness to listen and sincerity will be sorely missed.”

In addition to his work with the Rotary Club and a number of community initiatives, Cutler was a member of council for the Town of Flamborough prior to amalgamation, he was a board member of the St. Leonard’s Society of Canada, and he served as community relations advisor to Eisenberger for years.
“We are keeping Christopher’s partner, Lan, his family and friends in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time,” Eisenberger’s statement concluded, adding that funeral arrangements and flag-lowering honouring Cutler and his legacy will be announced soon.
