Amid gusting winds, more than 700 Hamilton Mountain homes and businesses lost power on Monday evening (Dec. 6).

Alectra Utilities estimates that the outage will last until around 11:30 p.m. on Monday night. It says that the outage is just south of the Juravinski Hospital, in the area of Upper Wentworth Street to East 36th St. and Queensdale Avenue East to Concession Street. A crew has already been dispatched.

Environment Canada has the city under a wind warning, saying gusts of 70 to 80 km/h are possible.

A total of 715 homes and businesses are believed to be affected. Alectra has also advised customers in the Hamilton area to keep their communication devices, such as mobile phones, charged since the heavy winds are expected to continue until after 12 a.m. on Tuesday.

UPDATE: About 29 businesses and homes are without power. Their expected time of resumption is now 1:30 a.m.

Progress in restoring power to the area can be tracked at horizonutilities.com.
