A 40-year-old Hamilton man will appear in court Tuesday (Apr 7) after being accused of steal a delivery package from a home in East Hamilton.

Shortly after 11:00 a.m. on March 26, a package was delivered to a residence in the area of Holton Ave and King Street E.

“A short time later, a male attended the residence and removed the package from the property,” said Hamilton Police Service (HPS). “With the assistance of video surveillance, investigators were able to identify a local male as the suspect.”

Police said they located the suspected male Monday (April 6) and he was arrested without incident.

HPS said the package was not recovered.

The 40-year-old Hamilton man is facing charges of theft under $5,000 and possession under $5,000.

Hamilton Police offered preventative measures that can assist with deterring theft:

  • Have your package delivered to your work, friend or relative’s home
  • Have your package held at your local post office for pickup
  • Request a confirmation signature be obtained upon delivery
  • Request the package be left in a special area at the residence out of plain view
